Our Emotional Stumbling Blocks are a Chosen Behavior. We make choices throughout our lifetime but some of the choices we make are based on errors in thinking and a faulty belief system leading to dysfunctional behaviors.
After graduating from college I began working in the Restaurant/Bar industry. I was working extremely long hours, making excellent money yet never felt fulfilled. I then became an owner of a restaurant and bar in Florida and began working more hours feeling less fulfilled, which resulted in having a severe impact on my marriage, which ultimately ended in divorce. With the impending divorce I became, as many, depressed and responded by making a multitude of unwise decisions. I began buying self-help books and tapes and eventually found a better path but it was a long and arduous process. During this time I continued in the restaurant business and retained that empty feeling of having a void in my life. I still had a pervasive feeling of not doing what I was chosen to do with my life. I decided to return to school at age 43 to obtain a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. After graduating I believed I had a purpose in life. I can help people.
What a shock when I came to realize that, one, I didn’t have healing hands and secondly, most of what I learned was meant to help people change but the process was not only lengthy but was an emotionally painful experience, in order to achieve that change. People would come to me with relationship issues and I would delve into their past, gleaning information on how their parents raised them, their relationship with their parents and siblings, how did the family respond to upsetting events, how were they disciplined, so on and so-forth. It seemed to me that while this information was important, having that knowledge didn’t make one change in their relationship. EUREKA, I HAD AN EPHINANY. I surmised people want change or they wouldn’t have contacted me in the first place. In addition, they usually called when everything else failed; when they were barely hanging on by their finger tips. In most cases I was, as they saw it, the last resort. Immediate change was necessary.
That is when I began learning everything I could about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I began applying it with clients and saw positive changes in short order. In addition, I began to study Hypnosis and Hpnotherapy and the remarkable results that it provided in an extremely short period of time. That led me to integrating these two approaches in to attain an OPTIMUM OUTCOME IN THE SHORTEST PERIOD OF TIME.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Since 1985, Jere Parker has been providing counseling for issues of concern in relationships, substance abuse, anger control, stress/anxiety, pain management and self-esteem. He has been quoted in the Indianapolis Star as well as local radio and television. He has conducted workshops and lectures for professionals in business and industry, the legal system and the health professions.
Mr. Parker holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. He is a Nationally Certified Hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists, the largest and most distinguished hypnosis organization in the world.. In addition, he is state licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and a Clinical Addiction Counselor. He also holds state, national and international certifications in substance abuse counseling and has done extensive work with relationship therapy, anger control, domestic violence as well as pain management and stress/anxiety issues. Years past he provided, pro bono mediation and arbitration service for the Better Business Bureau and offered anger control and domestic violence classes for inmates in the Marion County jail in Indianapolis.
He has a passion for all animals but canines in particular. Mr. Parker is married and lives in Indianapolis with his wife Sharon and their 3 Golden Retriever rescues, Budroe, Jessie and Mo.
Mr. Parker was founder and the Director of
both Alpha Resources and Alpha Resources Solutions since 1989.
There were six Indianapolis locations all of which were certified
by the Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addictions. He
recently sold his business to a competitor allowing him to concentrate
on writing articles and working with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
in conjunction with Hypnosis. “I want people to receive the therapeutic
